Five Minutes With — Suzanne N. Cory — Tomorrow's Accountants If the word accountant evokes images of curmudgeonly bean counters, it’s been awhile since you’ve visited an accounting firm. Today’s certified public accountants (CPA) often are dynamic members of business teams — not just financial report producers. As a result, new accounting graduates are expected to have more than basic accounting skills. But exactly what kind of skills? Suzanne N. Cory, Ph.D., a professor of accounting at the Bill Greehey School of Business, St. Mary’s University, and co-authors, Thomas Madison and Mark Persellin, conducted a survey to find out titled “Educating Tomorrow’s Accountants.” Though Cory primarily teaches financial accounting, her research interests include behavioral and gender issues in accounting and accounting education. She also is active in the American Accounting Association and is a member of the Texas Society of CPAs.
